A 13-year-old girl reads text snippets in a book, which obviously only partially open up to her. Arthur Schnitzler's novel, “Fräulein Else”, written in 1924, deals with the highly fragile state of mind of a 19-year-old young woman. In an inner monologue she tries to resolve the dilemma between fulfilling family expectations, longing for self-determined femininity and sexuality and transfigured thoughts of suicide. Her condition ends in a hysterical fit. A 13-year-old girl in our time knows such hypersensitive female figures fairly well from the media of television and film, can sometimes imitate them, but without being able to correctly grasp the complexity of the psychological background. The video work "Fräulein" deals with the asymmetry of the content read to the type of presentation of the too young reader.
