Doppelgänger, 2018
Lambda-Print, 24 x 18 cm
Psychological themes play a significant role in my photography and video work. “Doppelgänger” is a small, semi-appropriated photographic work that takes Sigmund Freud’s famous portrait as its starting point. Freud was very interested in the technique of superimposed portrait photographs because he believed that it allowed the archetype to manifest visually. This technique, using a mirrored and a non-mirrored image of his own portrait, brings forth something astonishing and uncanny. How might the explorer of the unconscious have interpreted this?
